When good news isn’t really good…

In this article found in the Chicago Sun-Times a woman reports receiving a natural gas bill that contained the notice, “Good news. Natural gas prices are lower than last year …” – of course that welcome message was immediately forgotten when she read the rest of the bill and discovered that she owed them $27,933.55! Not only that, but in a separate envelope she received a final-notice indicating that if she didn’t pay the bill by November 11, 2006 her gas would be shut off!

Obviously there’s been some sort of mix-up at the gas company but this makes me wonder – How many things in this world are presented as “good news” and when that message is bought into it is discovered that it really isn’t good after all. Such is the deceiving nature of sin.

Or what about this? How many Christians go around sharing the “good news” of Christ but then through their actions and behavior make others seriously doubt that this good news they talk about is really what it’s all cracked up to be?
